steven's quote for 4/18/01:
i was questioning steven when he got into trouble at school. i asked him why he didn't do what his teacher told him. he replied that he 'didn't hear her because there were a bunch of kids LOLLYGAGGING around.'

quote for 4/21/01

we had to meet up with scott to pick scott up at a motorcycle repair shop. steven asked if i had ever been there before. i said i had not. he asked how we would find it. i said that scott had drawn it out for me. steven asked if scott 'drew a picture of what it looks like or directions to get there.' i laughed picturing myself driving around columbia looking building that looked like the drawing. it told him it was directions.

quote for 4/22/01

steven was looking at his bible story book. he asked if about whether it was jacob or esau who was bad. i said that it was esau. he asked what esau did that was bad. i said that he tried to kill jacob and he married canaanite women. later i asked steven if he knew why it was bad for esau to marry canaanite women. he said, "OH! I thought you said that he buried them."

Steven was asking about when the baby is born. he asked if the baby would have clothes. we said 'yes.' he asked if it was born with clothes on. we said 'no.' we said that we buy clothes for it. so he asked if we would be taking a naked baby to the store and then buying it clothes. we said we would buy clothes before it was born and put them on after it was born while we were still at the hospital.
he wants all of his toys to be metal so the baby won't break them.

he said that he would read to the baby.

there was something on the radio about diaper changing. he said 'gross.' i told him that he would have to help me change the baby. he protested and i told him 'well, i changed your dirty diapers.'

since i forgot to call you, i guess i will type it out. chris built steven's swing set last weekend. monday night steven played on it after school. michaels' has christmas lights on sale. they are only 25 cents for a string of 50 lights. i like bunching them up in glass containers. they look really cool. i put a strand of green lights in steven's room because he likes green. he asked to keep them on when he went to bed. scott turned them off and steven told him that i said he could have them on. scott asked me and then turned them back on. a while later, scott just knew steven was in there playing or looking at books since he had light in his room. so scott burst into the room to catch him at it. steven was laying in bed with his blanket just like he was supposed to be. scott felt stupid and mean, so he tried to play it off and come up with something to say. he asked, "did you have fun on your playset today?" steven said, "what playset?" scott said, "your swing set." steven said, "yeah" and continued to look at scott with confusion on his face. scott said, "good" and closed the door. a while after that scott was sure that steven started playing after he left, but he was afraid of looking like an idiot again, so he did not go check.

Stevenisms 6-6-00

I took Steven to a meeting on Sunday morning where the discussion was about having a light in your heart from knowledge of God. We went to a store that afternoon and Steven was talking to the people who worked there. He was making them laugh so I went over to be amused. He told them, "Witnesses of God have a light heart." They were shocked to hear a little kid spout that. He gave them each a Pokemon sticker. She got Needle King and he got Needle Queen. Then Steven said that she is a king and he is a queen. They laughed so hard and said 'He's got that right!' because the guy was gay.
When we were going into the apartment, Steven held the door for me. Then he said 'What do you say?' I said 'Thank you.' Then he said 'Why do you always forget to say please and thank you and prayers?' I couldn't find my keys one morning and he was telling me something about Pokemon. I said 'Steven, help me find the keys or we will be late.' He said 'Are they in your pocket?' So I checked the pants I wore the day before and said 'no.' He said 'Are they in your bag?' I checked my bag and there they were. I usually call my mom when I can't find things. With the lectures on manners and ability to find things, my child is taking the place of my parent.

His teacher scolded me one morning for bringing him in late. Since then, he gets up before me and then starts hassling me to get up and saying 'get up or we will be late.' He will bring me a drink or something to eat in bed.

He always wants every toy he sees advertised. He always asks for new toys. One time, I told him that he didn't get a new toy every day. He said 'yes I do!' I couldn't really argue because he just about did. I told him 2 weeks ago that i didn't have money to be buying toys. He said 'that's okay. Here's your credit card.' Before my brother's wedding about 2 years ago, my step mom heard Steven say 'we don't need money. we have plastic.' A couple of minutes later, she went to throw something in the trash and found that he had thown away a bunch of dollar bills.

He bought a stuffed turtle at the zoo. He was sleeping with it at night. He told me that the turtle gave him a hug and kiss every morning--before he woke up.

My mom was joking around one day in the car and said 'what are we going to do with your mommy?' Steven said 'throw her in the dumpster.'

He was telling me that one of the kids in his class says curse words. He said 'he says the f-word, and the s-word, and the p-word, and all the alphabet words.'

I will leave you with one last one that should serve as a warning:

We went to an art exhibit with our friend Gina. After we looked in all of the galleries, we went to listen to some people playing drums outside of a club. Some people were dancing around to the beat. Gina was holding steven and she said 'here's my drum' and began drumming on his bottom. He said 'here's my drums' and began drumming on her breasts. She said 'touche' little man' and put him down.
